MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin now offers two new course concentrations in gifted and talented education and instructional design and technology for those wishing to earn a Master of Science in Education or complete +30 required training hours.

The five-course sequence in gifted and talented education is taught online by instructor Genevieve Felts-Meyer and can be used as a gifted endorsement for a current teaching license.

The courses include characteristics and needs of the gifted/talented, strategies and programs for teaching the gifted/talented, advanced methods in gifted education, theories and trends in gifted education and practicum in gifted education. Participants must have already completed an entry-level special education course, either as an undergraduate or graduate student.

The second new concentration, instructional design and technology, focuses on improving online instructional methods. Participants will learn to teach online courses in a virtual classroom and use technology and online resources to enhance face-to-face instruction in a traditional classroom.

Courses in this concentration include foundations of distance learning, instructional design, teaching and learning at a distance, creating collaborative learning environments and educational technology.

Other education graduate programs available online are early childhood, advanced special education, reading specialist, geoscience education, counseling, educational leadership and English as a second language (nine-hour endorsement only). Interested applicants should apply for admissions through UT Martin.

For more information on any of these programs, contact Kimberly Page at 731-881-7128 or by email at kpage6@utm.edu.
