MARTIN, Tenn. – An African percussion master class will be offered to students and community members at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 22, in room 112 of the Boling University Center on the campus of the University of Tennessee at Martin.
Dr. B. Michael Williams, a guest instructor, will conduct the class.
Williams is the professor of music and director of percussion studies at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C. He earned his bachelor of music degree from Furman University, his master of music degree from Northwestern University and his doctorate of music from Michigan State University. He has made scholarly presentations on African music at the College Music Society and Percussive Arts Society.
Williams has also composed works for marimba ensemble, “Three Shona Songs” and “Shona Celebration.”
The event is free and open to the public.
