MARTIN, Tenn. – Community members and business leaders are invited to attend the 15th annual African American Leadership Conference from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on April 18 at the West Tennessee Research and Education Center. The conference theme is “Challenges and Opportunities,” and the program will cover topics of interest to African American leaders.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and include a continental breakfast. Dr. Ed Stanton, III, a United States attorney for the western district of Tennessee, will serve as the keynote speaker beginning at 8:45. Dr. Chima Abakwue, assistant principal at Lexington Middle School, and Sandy Stewart, executive director of the Greer Campaign in Oakfield, will follow.
After lunch, attendees will hear Rev. Guy Hendree, pastor at Elcanaan Baptist Church in Whiteville; Kathy Moore Cowan, senior community development specialist at the Memphis branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis; and Garrick Clouden, M.D., from First Care Medical Center in Brownsville.
Anne Banks, a member of the WestStar Leadership class of 1997, will serve as conference emcee. Door prizes will be distributed throughout the event.
The conference fee is $35 per person or $60 for two. This fee includes the continental breakfast, lunch, all speakers and a variety of networking opportunities. Advance registration is required, and checks should be made payable to WestStar.
