Phi Kappa Phi initiation ceremony, banquet set for April 8

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi will initiate its newest members during a ceremony at 6 p.m., April 8, in the Watkins Auditorium of the Boling University Center.
The ceremony will include junior and senior students, as well as graduate students and faculty members. The new 2014-15 chapter officers will also be recognized.
The ceremony will be followed by a banquet at 6:30 p.m. in the Duncan Ballroom, also in the Boling University Center. Tickets are $20 and are available at the University Center Information Desk on the second floor through Friday, April 4.
The 2014 speaker is UT Martin chancellor emeritus Nick Dunagan who was the eighth chancellor of UT Martin, presiding in office from 2001 to 2007.
Dunagan began his work at UT Martin in 1973 as director of development. His most recent job assignments included executive vice chancellor, vice chancellor for student affairs, and vice chancellor for development and administration.
He has also served as interim chancellor three times (1985-86, 1997-98, 2000-01), and he served as executive director of WestStar, the university's regional leadership program for West Tennessee. He is a member of the executive committee of Weakley County's Education Edge program and is a member of the Martin Economic Development Council.
A native of Caruthersville, Mo., Dunagan is a 1968 UT Martin graduate, a 1971 graduate of the University of Missouri School of Law, and received a doctorate in higher education administration in 1990 from Vanderbilt University. He is a retired colonel in the Tennessee Army National Guard and is an active member in the Martin First United Methodist Church.
The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi was founded more than 100 years ago and is America’s oldest all-discipline college honor society. It awards more than $700,000 each year to outstanding members for further academic study.
