STEMulation Camp competition winners announced

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin Office of Extended Campus and Online Studies hosted a STEMulation Camp, titled “Lo-Tech to Hi-Tech,” for rising 6th, 7th and 8th graders June 16-20, on campus. The camp held multiple competitions for the participants on Friday, June 20.
Competition winners were as follows:
•The winners of the Scratch Computer Programming competition were: first place, Jacob Virgin, of Union City; second place, Sarah Foltz, of Martin; and third place, Rishika Bhojanapalli, of Medina.
•The winners of the Rocket Competition were: first place, Zakaria Adams, of Milan; second place, Dalton Hall, of South Fulton; and third place, Oscar Aguilar, of Hollow Rock.
•The winners of the Mousetrap Vehicle Race were: first place, Logan Coleman, of Beech Bluff, and Luke Woodall, of Dresden; second place, Brendan Goggins, of Paris, and Tyler Molands, of Union City; and third place, Jacob Virgin, of Union City, and Zakaria Adams, of Milan.
•The winners of the Boomilever Competition were: first place, Luke Woodall, of Dresden, and Logan Coleman, of Beech Bluff; second place, Tyler Molands, of Union City, and Brendan Goggins, of Paris; and third place, Sarah Foltz, of Martin, and Connor Page, of Martin.
The camp allowed participants to work individually and in teams through a series of hands-on STEM-based activities. All activities aligned with NSTA (National Science Teacher Association) and Common Core academic standards.
STEMulation Camp 2014 “Lo-Tech to Hi-Tech” was under the direction of Dr. Louis C. Glover, UT Martin assistant professor of education, Department of Educational Studies. Dr. Glover joined the UT Martin faculty in 2011. He came to UT Martin from Dallas, Texas, where he was a secondary mathematics and science instructor.
Assisting Dr. Glover with the camp were UTM pre-service education majors Andrew Eudy, Amanda Geater, Nicole Runions and Jalen Taylor.
