Construction has begun on a new 7,000-square-foot building for the Skyhawks baseball and softball programs. The building will include offices, equipment storage, locker rooms, showers, team meeting space and laundry facilities for both baseball and softball programs. In addition, the east end of the building will include public restrooms and a concession stand. The project also will include a limited amount of new parking, an entry feature for Skyhawk Park and additional perimeter fencing. Phil Dane, director of intercollegiate athletics, said construction should be completed within nine months.
“The baseball/softball building will be the crowning feature for several facility improvements surrounding our baseball and softball programs over the past three years,” Dane said.
Both fields now have lighting and new grandstands.
Dane said the primary funding for the improvements comes from a portion of the activity fee revenue approved by the UT Martin student body in 2007.
