Matt Gunn

Matt Gunn is a first-year student at The University of Tennessee at Martin, and is currently double majoring in Music and Health and Human Performance. He absolutely loves music; he has been in choir for as long as he can remember. In high school, he has had the opportunity to be a part of the Freshman Honors Choir his freshman year, and both Mid and All State Choirs all three following years. He has had the privilege of learning under the direction of Mrs. Sandy Elliott at Mount Juliet High School for the past four years. He was a part of the mixed ensemble as well as the men's ensemble. Now that he is at Martin, he is ecstatic to see where God leads him and how music will continue to play an important role in his life.

I've chosen UTM because of its wonderful music program, once I learned about UTM and their major offers, I decided to try everything in my power to come here.

Why is UTM a good fit for you?

I've been taking vocal lessons on campus for a couple of years and have always felt very comfortable and welcomed here. The faculty have always made me feel at home and showed that they really care about me as a student and a person. It is close to home and both of my parents are alumni. It was a perfect fit for me!

Mason Parker

Mason Parker is a sophomore music education major from Union City, TN. He started his musical career playing trumpet through his senior year of high school, and decided to pursue vocal music as he entered college. He hopes to teach in the future, possibly after pursuing further education.

Why is UTM a good fit for you?

I feel like the UTM music program allows me to push myself beyond boundaries I might have otherwise set. It's also fun to be challenged by my colleagues to be a better musician.
