Courtney Edmonds of Starkville, Miss. pursued a financial aid opportunity that proved to be invaluable to her education. Courtney is the recipient of the Bill Gates Millennium Scholarship, which pays for her cost of attendance from her undergraduate studies through her graduate work.

The junior from Camden, Tenn., has added “University of Tennessee student trustee” to her growing resume as she serves a two-year term on the UT Board of Trustees while completing her UT Martin nursing degree.

Dakar, Senegal

All students at the University of Tennessee at Martin come from different backgrounds, but Samba Diop's background is particularly unique. Samba was born in Carbondale, Ill., and when he was only a few months old, his family moved back to Senegal, Africa. Having spent most of his life in Senegal, Samba decided to venture to the United States to further pursue his education.

Coming from a small Canadian town with a population of only 5,500, Dr. Angie MacKewn continually is motivated to work toward the betterment of the UT Martin community by performing two important tasks for the campus: recycling and teaching. These two passions keep her motivated throughout her everyday life.

Travis Henry is no stranger to the University of Tennessee at Martin. Both of his parents, Archie and Marcella Henry, and his sister, Megan Henry, are graduates of the university. While attending high school at Jackson Christian School in Jackson, Tenn., Travis participated in the UT Martin Dual Enrollment Program.
