Google Apps at the University of Tennessee at Martin
Google Apps is coming to UT Martin Students
After a lengthy review and testing process, the administration at the University of Tennessee at Martin has decided to partner with Google to provide email and collaboration tools for its students. The contract has been approved and signed, allowing the transition to begin.
Currently, the Office of Information Technology Services is finalizing technical details that will integrate Google Apps with the myUTMartin Portal. The projected timeline for implementation has two major dates at this point in time. Incoming new students for fall semester will have their initial email accounts created in Google Apps and will begin using those accounts as they participate in SOAR, beginning April 24. Current students and graduates from last fall will soon be notified about the availability of their accounts. Upon that notification, those users can begin logging into the Google Apps services prior to the full migration date. On May 9, IT Services will change mail delivery for the current Exchange mail accounts to the Google Apps accounts. Upon completion of that change, IT Services will begin migrating the mailbox contents of the Exchange mail system to Google Apps.
After May 9, it is recommended that all students utilize their new Google Mail address for all email correspondence. That address will take the form of username@ut.utm.edu and can be used as long as Google provides mail service for our users, allowing students to have a consistent email address for resumes and use after graduation.
