Institute for Civic Engagement - Director's Note

As someone sensitive to word choices, I am aware that the title; Institute for Civic Engagement, probably does not aptly describe what we do, but it makes for a fun acronym: ICE. ICE, in some ways does a better job of summarizing us than our full name, since we strive to be cool in all we do and always seem to be in jeopardy of melting away. We keep hoping for a good hard freeze.

But while we are still “on the right side of the melting point”, we keep doing what we do, which is try to find ways to encourage UTM students to be more active, engaged and informed as campus-, national- and global-citizens. We partner a lot with other campus organizations, both because we have a limited budget, and because events and activities get better turn out and enthusiasm, when more people are part of the planning process.

I hope you visit our website often because you find it useful and if you are a student, become part of ICE; starting where you are in your development as a person. If you are a natural leader, great, but the only real requirement to be part of ICE is the desire to make a positive impact on the fortunes of all sentient beings in the world.
