Department of Nursing

The UT Martin BSN clinical program includes more than 900 hours of hands-on clinical experience in hospitals and healthcare facilities across the state. Admission to the clinical program is separate from enrollment at UT Martin. Students may take prerequisite courses during the freshman year to prepare for application to the program, but may only continue into clinical courses if granted program admission.

Applications to the clinical program must be received by February 1 before the fall semester in which the student hopes to begin clinical coursework. Applications are screened on a competitive basis by the Department of Nursing Admissions and Policies Committee, and factors include overall GPA, prerequisite course grades, ACT composite score and an essay component.

Prerequisite courses for the clinical program are Chemistry 121; Mathematics 100-110, 140, 185, or 251; Microbiology 251; Psychology 101; and Zoology 251 or transfer equivalent courses. A grade below a C in any of these courses will delay or alter admission to the clinical nursing program. If a student is accepted into the clinical program, he or she must maintain a grade of a C or above in all required courses in order to progress. Failure to do so will result in dismissal from the program.

The UT Martin Department of Nursing maintains partnerships with facilities throughout Tennessee, providing students with one of the widest varieties of clinical experiences available in the region.
