The EXERCISE SCIENCE AND WELLNESS program at UT-Martin provides instruction and applied experiences in both clinical and health promotion/education. Graduate education and certification preparation is available in pre-physical therapy, pre-occupational therapy, chiropractic, and massage therapy.
The EXERCISE SCIENCE AND WELLNESS program offers the best in instruction and clinical experiences preparing students for continued study in graduate and certification programs.
Field experience is considered an important part of the curriculum beginning with a 2 cr. hr. practicum at a self-selected site. A full semester internship in a specialized area completes the program and readies the graduate for the real world. Additional opportunities include ACSM and CSCS certifications, aerobic certifications, working with a diabetes grant, research and professional presentations.
A number of our graduates go to PT/OT/chiropractic school, graduate school in cardiac rehabilitation and exercise physiology, corporate and hospital wellness programs, or become personal trainers or strength coaches.
SHAPE Club is a recognized student organization for all students in the Sport Management, Licensure K-12, and Exercise and Wellness concentrations.
The Elam Center and Skyhawk Field House which houses the Department of Health and Human Performance and Athletics boasts a newly renovated weight room along with a ground breaking for a new Student Recreation Center set for Fall 2008.
