Students can learn German, travel to and study in Germany, learn more about the Germanic roots of the English language, and even minor in this popular subject!
Students can learn German, a language with more than 100 million speakers and one of the three official languages of the E.U. German learners at UTM typically spend 10 days, 3 weeks, 6 weeks, or even a semester abroad at our partnership institution, the Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany.

Minors in German have gone on to study subjects as diverse as German, English, and comparative literature after graduation. Several students have gone to work for German companies in Tennessee, such as Reinhausen USA, in Humboldt, Tennessee.
The German Club. Also, many of our students are University Scholars.
Tech classrooms and a state of the art language laboratory foster the acquisition of German at the lower and upper division courses.
The faculty specializes in Austrian literature of the turn of the 20th century (Hofsmannsthal, Kafka, Von Adrian, Beer-Hofmann, etc.)
