The LICENSURE K-12 program is designed as an interdisciplinary major preparing students to obtain TWO different teaching licenses: (1) Physical Education K-12, (2) Health and Wellness K-12.
The LICENSURE K-12 program at UT-Martin is NCATE accredited. Students begin practicing class management and teaching skills in the public schools as early as their sophomore year.
Students have field experiences in the schools with special needs children as part of their training. Students attend professional meetings and even have the opportunity to give professional presentations.
The majority of graduates from this program are employed very quickly in teaching and coaching positions in the area. The college also offers a Masters degree programs in Education with a major in Elementary or Secondary Teaching.
SHAPE Club is a recognized student organization for all students in the Sport Management, Licensure K-12, and Exercise and Wellness concentrations.
The Elam Center and Skyhawk Field House which houses the Department of Health and Human Performance and Athletics boasts a newly renovated weight room along with a ground breaking for a new Student Recreation Center set for Fall 2008.
