At a glance:


A major in Health and Human Performance with a concentration in SPORT MANAGEMENT provides instruction and applied experiences in planning, organizing, and leadership through an integrated curriculum. The program includes course options in business and marketing, recreation, communications/ broadcasting, administration, and leadership.



Why should a student choose the program at UT Martin?


The SPORT MANAGEMENT program at UT-Martin offers a curriculum that prepares you for employment in a very competitive sports world. The program is currently being upgraded to meet educations standards set forth by the North American Society for Sport Management.



Are there any special opportunities available such as internships, global travel, etc?


Field experience is considered an important part of the curriculum beginning with a 2 cr. hr. practicum at a self-selected site. A full semester internship in a specialized area completes the program and readies the graduate for the real world. Additional opportunities include certification opportunities in sports officiating and travel to professional meetings.



What can a student do after graduation – graduate school, possible careers?


Many of our graduates find career opportunities in sport broadcasting, sporting goods retail operations, recreation programs, athletic administration, sport marketing or as a sport agent to name a few.



What kind of student organizations, clubs, or honor societies can a student join?


SHAPE Club is a recognized student organization for all students in the Sport Management, Licensure K-12, and Exercise and Wellness concentrations.



What kind of facilities and equipment will be available to the student?


The Elam Center and Skyhawk Field House which houses the Department of Health and Human Performance and Athletics boasts a newly renovated weight room along with a ground breaking for a new Student Recreation Center set for Fall 2008.
