Majors in the Department of Music are for those who love music and want to make a career out of their passion for it. The department’s degrees in Music Education lead into public school teaching (choir director, general music teacher). Its degrees in Performance and Performance Pedagogy prepare students for graduate school and careers as professional musicians. The Bachelor of Arts in Music degree provides a well-rounded liberal arts education for the student wanting to craft his or her own degree program.

In the spring semesters, UT Martin's choir programs perform on tour. Recent tours have include the Southeastern U.S. (Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina) and the Western U.S. (California, Arizona, and Nevada.) Future tour information can be found at www.utm.edu/choirs.
What can a student do after graduation – graduate school, possible careers?
What kind of student organizations, clubs, or honor societies can a student join?
Students in the Department of Music are very involved in their ensembles and applied studios. Many of them also find time to participate in Sigma Alpha Iota, a women’s music fraternity or Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, a men’s music fraternity.
What kind of facilities and equipment will be available to the student?
The Department of Music is currently housed in the Fine Arts Building, which contains practice rooms, a piano lab, and a music computer lab with MIDI piano keys and Finale software. Performances are held in the 450-seat Harriet Fulton Theatre.
