Dr. Mancusi joined the faculty of The University of Tennessee at Martin in the fall of 2008. Prior to coming to Martin, Dr. Mancusi was on the music faculty at Eastern New Mexico University. He possesses a bass-baritone voice that has been described as, “A glorious instrument…warm and very robust.” Dr. Mancusi has performed many opera roles and solo recitals across the country. Of the roles he has performed, most notable are: Falstaff (Falstaff), Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte), Dulcamara (L’elisir d’amore), Dr. Bartolo (Le nozze di Figaro), and Melchior (Amahl and the Night Visitors). In addition to operas, he has appeared as the bass soloist in such works as Elijah (Mendelssohn), Messiah (Handel), Lord Nelson Mass (Haydn), Te Deum (Dvorak), Requiem (Fauré), and Carmina Burana (Orff). Additionally, he made his first foray into musical theater as Prologus/Pseudolus in a 2005 production of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.
Dr. Mancusi holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Simpson College, as well as, Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music. All of his degrees are in vocal performance.
In addition to singing, Dr. Mancusi remains an active clinician, adjudicator, and author. He has given master classes and clinics for singers throughout the Southwest and Midwest. As an author, Dr. Mancusi’s first textbook, Voice for Non-Majors, was released this spring by Prentice Hall Publishing.
