PIANO
The UT Martin Department of Music offers piano instruction for all music students, from class piano for the non-pianist through advanced lessons for the performance and pedagogy major.
The department boasts a large number of 7-foot Steinways for ensemble and chamber work and a Baldwin SD-10 for solo performances. UTM has an unusually active piano ensemble which presents programs every semester. In addition, UTM’s commitment to piano pedagogy includes a yearly piano workshop each fall and assistance for students in starting a piano studio during their undergraduate study. The annual UT Martin Piano Competition has cash prizes for winners in various age categories. The competition also has scholarship prizes for graduating seniors planning to attend UT Martin as music majors.
For pianists, the department offers Bachelor of Music degrees in Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy as well as a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education with piano as the principal instrument. To learn more, visit the UT Martin Piano & Flute Studio Website.
