Fall 2012 Bios

  Kathleen Alford is currently a junior veterinary science major. Her hometown is Dyersburg, TN, and her interests lie with anything with four feet or feathers.

Eli Glynn Anderson is a staff member of BeanSwitch and featured poet. He is currently a junior civil engineering major from Columbia, TN. He is interested in hiking and writing.

Belinda Barker is currently a junior English major with a concentration in writing and a minor in communications. Having loved writing since childhood, her aspiration is to pursue an MFA in creative writing.

Jocelyne Barchet is currently a junior graphic design major from Kingston Springs, TN. Her interests include painting and drawing, just Disney in general, and hanging out with her Alpha Delta Pi sisters. She draws inspiration from the beautiful colors nature has to offer.

Eric Brand is a staff member of BeanSwitch. He is currently a senior majoring in public relations from Lewisburg, TN. He enjoys reading and occasionally writing.

Kristin Brooks is currently a senior cell and molecular biology major with a minor in Chemistry. Her hometown is in Selmer, TN, and her interests include reading books, writing stories, and spending time with her family. After graduation, she hopes to attend pharmacy school and earn her doctorate.

Ashley Burton is currently a senior political science major from Memphis, TN. Her interests include grass roots activism, American politics, traveling, singing/jam sessions, and reading. She draws her inspiration from her grandmothers, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, Nikki Giovanni, Dr. Bill Cosby.

Beth Crocker is currently a freshman graphic design major from Christmasville, TN. Her interests include drawing, writing, reading, and painting. She draws her inspiration from all over, whether it’s something someone says or just looking around at the beautiful nature that she is surrounded by here on the UTM campus. She loves exploring different emotions and colors in her work and hope it brings joy to those that view it.

Memori DePriest is currently a senior graphic design major from Linden, TN. In her spare time, she enjoys her recent interest of crocheting scarves, and after graduation, she hopes to find a job she enjoys, working with others who also enjoy it.

Zachariah Dickson is currently a sophomore secondary art education major from Waverly, TN. Art is his passion, and he wants to share that passion with his future students. He is thankful for all the support he has received while pursuing his dreams. It is those who have found love and friendship in him who are the biggest influences and inspirations in his life.

Misty Dunlap is co-executive editor of BeanSwitch and a featured poet. She is currently a second year graduate student in interdisciplinary education with a concentration in English. Her hometown is Dresden, TN, and she draws her inspiration from Mayakovsky’s “A Cloud in Trousers,” her favorite poem, personal experiences, and her family history.

Jonathan Lucas French is a staff member of BeanSwitch and a featured author. He is currently a sophomore English major with a concentration in writing from South Fulton, TN. His interests are determined by time. His inspirations are vastly varied.

Donna Hacker is from Fulton, KY. Her interests include travel, photography, mixed media, calligraphy, sewing, and cooking. She is inspired by each new day.

Mary Jean Hall is currently a senior communications major with a concentration in news editorial from Covington, TN.  She enjoys exploring the outdoors, writing, and playing disc golf. She continuously finds herself inspired by the small moments in life.

Rocky Holland is a staff member of BeanSwitch and featured author. He is currently a second year English major with a concentration in writing. His inspirations include Ray Bradbury, Hunter S. Thompson, Alan Moore, and Elmore Leonard.

Rachel Hurst is currently a sophomore English major from Selmer, TN. Her interests include reading and writing, as well as sketching whenever she has the time. She draws inspiration from places such as music, people, places, nature, books, and art.

Cody Jarman is currently a sophomore theatre major from Clarksville, TN. His interests include acting, writing, philosophy, and watermelons. He is also a musician. His writing is influenced by all aspects of his life, from his studies in theatre to his eclectic reading lists and the works of his favorite bands.

Zach Johnson is currently a junior graphic design major from Oakland, TN. He aspires to a be a concept designer for a game or movie company creating characters and environments and eventually wants to have one of his ideas for a game come to realization.

Kara Kidwell is currently a senior communications major with a minor in marketing. Her hometown is Fort Lauderdale, FL. She plans to work in event planning and has a goal of working for the U.S. State Department. Her hobbies include travel, photography, and wine. She draws inspiration from nature and through her travels.

Toshya Leonard is currently a freshman communications major with a sequence in public relations and a minor in creative writing. Her hometown is in Cordova, TN. She enjoys writing all types of poetry and draws inspiration from the world around her and the little things that some eyes do not exactly catch.

Jami Miller is currently a sophomore graphic design major from Selmer, TN. She loves to draw, write, and ride around late at nights with her friends. She draws inspiration from nature, music, horror movies, her dreams, and even the smallest things in everyday life.

Jennifer Parrish is a staff member of BeanSwitch.  She is currently a junior majoring in English with a concentration in writing. She is originally from New York, but now lives in Martin with her husband and three children. She believes the human voice is powerful in the well formed thought of our written language, but feels that true empathy and compassion come from hearing the human voice and all of its intonations.

Melanie O’Neil is currently a junior graphic design major from Deer Park, Texas. She became inspired to explore photography after her mother gave her a camera for her fifteenth birthday. As a photographer, she tries to capture the beauty she sees in all things and share it with everyone around her.

Beth Reed is a staff member of BeanSwitch. She is a senior English and History major from Palmersville, TN. Her interests include reading, writing, and puzzles.  Her inspiration is her family, who has always encouraged her.

Brittney Reed is a graduate of UTM with a B.A. in English and is currently studying library science and information at the University of Washington online. She is employed at UTM, and her hometown is Woodbury, TN. Her interests include fiber arts, libraries, tea, road trips, and her dogs. Inspirations include the same.

Lyndsay Riggs is a staff member of BeanSwitch. She is currently a junior secondary English education major from Lewisburg, TN. She is very passionate about reading and writing—fictional stories/novels and poetry in particular—and hopes one day to be a published writer. Her inspirations include writers like Sylvia Plath, Tim O’Brien, Jane Austen, Jane Hamilton, and J.R.R. Tolkien.

Megan Schwab is currently a senior finance major. Her hometown is Memphis, TN, and she draws her inspiration from her mother and her mother’s art.

Kait Scott is currently a sophomore at Abeka Academy from Kenton, TN.  When she looks through the lens of a camera she sees an entirely new world that God created. She hopes to live a full life filled with family, friends and creativity.

Cody Speed is currently a senior graphic design major from Union City, TN. He has had an interest in art since he was a child, and he started out painting but recently has become more attached to drawing with ink and Sharpie pens. He believes art is expression and, for him, a way to communicate.

Crystal Springer is a staff member of BeanSwitch. She is currently a senior majoring in English with a concentration in writing. She enjoys the written part of the magazine, particularly the works of fiction. Her favorite type of writing is creative.

Alexandra Stover is a freshman studio art major from Sparta, TN.  She is inspired by her unconditional love for art, her ambition, her faith, and by her teachers and fellow students at UTM.

Lauren Suiter is currently a senior art education major from Indian Mound, TN. She would like to teach art and eventually become an art therapist. She enjoys art, reading and horseback riding.

Sonny Taylor is currently a freshman English major from Celina, TN. Her interests include reading, graphic design, and strange nail designs. She draws her inspiration from the 2010-2012 CCHS creative writing classes, Glenda Ritter, Chassity Daniels, and Anne Bishop.

Regan Ward is currently a freshman and momentarily undeclared. Her hometown is Martin, TN. She would like to possibly pursue a career in writing or, at the very least, to continue writing as a hobby. Her other interests include soccer and artistic projects. She draws inspiration for writing from authors like Suzanne Collins and J.K. Rowling, the music she constantly has in her ear, and the good-humored people she always seems to be surrounded by.

Lauren Whitaker is currently a senior English major from Clearwater, Fl. She is inspired by the natural (unique) beauty in seemingly ordinary things. She  is interested in  nature and people in action.  She is interested in fitness and the human body, which a majority of her works relate to.

Cody Michael Williams is a senior visual arts major from Adamsville, TN. His interests include human anatomy, cosmology, and philosophy, which he draws from for his inspiration.
