About
BeanSwitch is the University of Tennessee at Martin's literary and arts magazine. Published twice annually, in print during the Spring and online during the Fall, we seek to present the very best original creative writing and art from the students and faculty of UTM and the surrounding community.
BeanSwitch has existed in one form or another since 1961, when the first issue was published under the name Prolegomenon. The name was changed in 1968, to Vista. Then, shortly after that, the name was changed again to Windmills. Windmills existed from 1972 – 1983 as the official publication of the Omega Theta Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the international English Society. In 1984, the name was changed to BeanSwitch. One word, capital B, capital S. The name, surprisingly enough, actually has nothing to do with beans, but is taken from a rural road not too far from us here in Martin. In 2004 we became a member of the Office of Student Publications, and in 2006 we began publishing our Fall issues online.
Our goal today is the same as it has always been: to to present the very best original creative writing and art from the students and faculty of UTM and the surrounding community. Please take a look at our latest issue and at our archives, we're confident you'll find something you like.
