| Black Student Association - Purpose
The purpose of the Black Student Association at the University of Tennessee
at Martin is to provide a support network for the black community on the UTM campus and to provide cultural
enrichment for the campus and the community at large.
The Black Student Association works to bring about a greater awareness
of African-American culture and the African-American presence within the University of Tennessee at Martin
by enhancing the social and intellectual participation of African-American students within the UTM and
Martin communities.
The Black Student Association serves as an integral part of UTM's student life by:

Providing a means of academic and social interaction within the African-American community at the University of Tennessee at Martin |

Raising the political awareness of African -Americans at the University of Tennessee at Martin and the community at large through facilitation of such events as forum discussions and co-sponsorship of other events like the Annual Civil Rights Conference |

Increasing the general awareness the University of Tennessee at Martin community in regards to significant events and issues impacting the African-American community through sponsoring and co-sponsoring programs celebrating such events as Black History Month, Martin Luther King Jr., holiday, and others |

Working to identify and meet the various needs of the African-American student body at UTM and helping the University to meet its retention goals |
