UT Martin's English Society is a group dedicated to inspiring others to study and love English. We are not alone in this task at UT Martin.
UT Martin also has a chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the National Honors English Society. Although the English Society and Sigma Tau Delta very often work in conjunction, there are some key differences.
• English Society is open to all students interested in literature topics; Sigma Tau Delta is open only to English majors and minors who qualify.
• The English Society is a local group; Sigma Tau Delta is national.
• The English Society does boost your resume, but we currently offer no scholarships or internships. Sigma Tau Delta has undergraduate and graduate scholarships, and offers paid internships through Better World Books and Penguin Books.
Sigma Tau Delta's national website is an invaluable tool for those seeking to join the honor society. You must be a second semester sophomore, junior, or senior to join. If you are a freshman interested in Sigma Tau Delta, hang out with the English Society! Most of the members of Sigma Tau Delta are also in English Society, and we'll give you the inside scoop.
