Kiwanis Edu”K”ation Moment
Kiwanis was defined as “an organization for men” in the constitution adopted at the Denver Constitutional Convention in 1924. In 1987, after more than a decade of debate throughout the

organization, delegates at the convention in Washington, DC, voted overwhelmingly to eliminate gender

as a membership requirement. Today, about 18 percent of worldwide Kiwanis membership is female and

about 29 percent of all new members are women.
