Thought for the Week

Your personal capacity to handle more valuable projects will go up when you appreciate yourself more.         ------  Brian Koslow

What is Kiwanis?

A new Kiwanis International statement defines Kiwanis as a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.  Our club is 37 years old this month.  We have 41 active members and 3 senior members.  We have 3 charter members in our club.  One of the primary focuses of Kiwanis is Youth.  Kiwanis has service organizations at the different school levels.  Our club sponsors K-Kids (Martin Elementary School), Builder’s Club (Martin Middle School), Key Club (Martin Westview High School), Circle K (UT Martin) and the Aktion Club for handicapped adults at the Community Developmental Services Center in Martin.  We have two major fundraisers each year -- Pancake Day and Delivered BBQ Lunches.  We sponsor several youth related projects in the community:  Cub Scout Pack 37; area youth baseball, softball, soccer, football, and basketball teams; and the Fishing Derby.  We sponsor the Martin Christmas Parade, give donations to 4-H, Girl Scouts, Area VII Special Olympics, and a UT Martin Scholarship.  Our club sponsored the playground at the Martin Recreational Complex.   We sponsor the 5K Road Race during the Soybean Festival in September.  We also contribute numerous hours to community service participating in other community events each year.

Relay for Life

Evelyn is looking for members to help with the Relay for Life team.  We have a K family team this year.  The Relay for Life event will be Friday, June 3 at the UTM Football Stadium.
