Kiwanis Education – Hixon Fellowship The Kiwanis International Foundation Board of Trustees created the George F. Hixon Fellowship in 1983 to honor the first Kiwanis International President Hixon, who served from 1916 to 1918, holds the distinction of being the only leader to server two terms as Kiwanis International President. Individuals establish membership through a $1,000 (US) contribution or a minimum initial contribution of $200 (US), pledging to contribute the balance over four years. Membership is not recognized until the full amount is submitted. George F. Hixon Fellowship members receive two numbered medallions bearing the likeness of Hixon. These medallions hang from blue and white ribbon. One is encased in a walnut and velvet shadow box for display and the other is worn at high-visibility Kiwanis functions. Funsds received for the Hixon Fellowship will be designated to the Kiwanis International Foundation Endowment, earnings from which provide grants to clubs and districts and also support programs such as Key-Leader, Service Leadership Programs, and the Sustainability of Universal Salt Iodization (IDD). Each year at the Kiwanis International convention, the Foundation hosts a reception to honor individuals in the Fellowship, as well as other contributors to programs such as the District Convention The District Convention is August 3 – 6 at the Grand Casino Hotel in Tunica, Miss. It’s not too late to reserve hotel rooms at the discounted rate. Please see Linda Ramsey for convention registration forms. Our Sponsored Clubs Need Help Many of our sponsored clubs have only one or two members working with them. These members need our help. They need more members to become involved in the clubs and help out. If you are available to help, see David Spencer or Misty Menees to see which club would be best for you. It’s not too long until school starts again and the clubs will be starting up at the beginning of the school year. |
