Thought For The Week

No diet will remove all the fat from your body because the brain is entirely fat.  Without a brain you might look good, but all you could do is run for office.

International & District Foundations

Kiwanis International has not been recognized by the US Internal Revenue Service as a 501c(3) tax deductible organization.  To make monetary gifts tax deductible, the Kiwanis Foundation was formed.  It was formed on the 25th anniversary of Kiwanis International. The purpose of the International Foundation, of which every Kiwanian is a member, is to provide financial assistance to service programs that are in agreement with and support the objectives of Kiwanis International. That purpose is achieved by making financial grants to Kiwanis International and Kiwanis family sponsored programs and to Kiwanis service programs whose scope is beyond the means of individual Kiwanians, Kiwanis clubs, local club foundations, Kiwanis districts, or district foundations.   The Louisiana Mississippi West Tennessee District also has a district foundation to assist clubs and organizations within our District.  Our club received a $1000 grant to help build the Kiwanis Playground at the Martin Recreational Complex in the late 1990’s.   Gifts to the Kiwanis International Foundation during the IDD campaign in the late 1990’s is where most of the awards were received that is displayed on our Honor Banner each week.

Baseball Tournament Help

The Cal Ripkin Baseball Tournament is asking for our help this Friday evening to help staff the ticket gates at the Recreational Complex from 6 – 8 pm.  A signup sheet is circulating.  If you can help or need more info, see Teri Towe or Frances Bynum.

Martin Beautiful Committee Awards

The Martin Beautiful Committee is now seeking nominations for the fifth annual Martin Beautiful Awards.  There will be six awards given to recognize beautification efforts in five different categories:  Residential (2),

Business/Commercial, Public Place, Churches, and Adopt-a-site.

Nominations are accepted beginning Monday, June 19 thru Friday, July 21.  After viewing the nominated sites during the week of July 23, the Martin Beautiful Committee will decide the winners.  Winners will be announced at the Mayor’s Kickoff Luncheon on Sept. 5.  Send your nominations to Ms. Karami Hagen.  See the flyers on your table for more info.
