K-Kudos

Circle K advisor Frank Black reports that over 50 college students came to the Circle K informative meeting held last week. The meetings are held Wednesday nights at 6pm outside the SGA Office on the 2nd Floor of the University Center.

Thank you to Bill Austin, Otha Britton, and Bettye Giles for serving the past two years on the Board of Directors.

K-News

Martin Kiwanis Member Cathy Barnett invites you to open house this Saturday at her Backyard Town Bed and Breakfast on College Street.  From 9am until 9pm.  Admission is canned goods or a cash donation to We Care Ministries.  There will be a gospel quartet singing, a flea market, miniature horses, pottery demonstrations and lots of fun Cathy Barnett style!

Last week the entire club agreed to take over the Christmas stocking project for We Care’s Christmas Store.  This project was a favorite of the late Mike Munkel.  Each Christmas Mike coordinated stuffing stockings for nearly 600 underprivileged children in the community.  This will likely become an annual Kiwanis project as Charley Deal has agreed to coordinate this year.

We have a New Website!!
www.martinkiwanisclub.org

The five civic clubs in Martin have agreed to a joint project.  Each club will be donating about $200 each towards the purchase of a lightening detection system for the Martin Recreation Complex.  The system will be able to warn ball players of lightening strikes in the area up to 25 miles away.  That way, the fields can be cleared and our kids and spectators will be safe.

Don’t forget to pick up a copy of the Weakley County Press this week to vote for your “Weakley County Favorites.”  A special reader’s choice publication will follow in October.  Among the categories is Favorite Civic Club. Today is the deadline for submissions.

A date and theme have been chosen for the Martin Christmas Parade.  “Santa’s Winter-Wonderland” is the theme and the date is the traditional Monday after Thanksgiving, Monday November 27th.   Incoming Kiwanis President-Elect Frank Black will coordinate this year’s parade.

Brandy the Tail-Twister

Ever wondered why Brandy shakes that box around the tables each week?  Brandy is the club tail-twister.  She’s tough, and she’ll get ya!  You can be fined a quarter for things like not wearing your Kiwanis pin, not wearing your name badge, calling a fellow member by a title like Dr., Mr., or Mrs. And expect a fine for having your picture in the newspaper for something not Kiwanis related. The money goes to a local charitable cause.

Board of Director’s Meeting

The Board of Directors will have their October board meeting tomorrow at Noon, at the Weldon Public Library.  All club members are welcome to attend. This will be the first board meeting for the newly inducted officers and board members.
