Mary Vaughn Carpenter, Director of the University of Tennessee Paul Meek Library, talked about the Library and the services it provides. Mary is the daughter of the late Miss "Jenny" Vaughn, long-time teacher and Martin historian.

Jim Rippy (at the podium), President of the Discovery Park project, and Robert Kirkland (standing in the background), chief financier of the project, spoke about the plans for the park and gave some insights into how the project came into being. This will be an outstanding attraction for the west Tennessee area.

Bob Shumate spoke about the Weakley County 4H program. A show of hands at the meeting indicated that a large number of club members were in the 4H program when they were in school.

Kermit Hopper

Kermit Hopper, Weakley County Road Supervisor, gave the club an overview of the road program, its progress, and the problems faced in light of recent budget cuts. Although hot mix asphalt is preferred, budget cuts will cause the road department to use cold mix for many roads.

Dennis Taylor

Dennis Taylor, UT Martin Tennis Coach, spoke about the men's and women's tennis programs. He noted that most of the recruiting in foreign countries is done by former members of the UT Martin tennis teams. He told about his coaching philosophy and emphasized how well the team members do academically. Dennis is a former member of the Martin club.

Thomas Payne, Interim Chair of the Department of Accounting, Economics, Finance, and International Business, Professor of Finance, and Chairholder of the Horace and Sara Dunagan Chair of Excellence in Banking, recently spoke to the club regarding the current financial crisis and the potential bailout.
