WHEREAS, the abuse of alcohol is an area of concern within our college community;
WHEREAS, the Panhellenic Council of the University of Tennessee-Martin fully
supports and complies with the NPC alcohol-free housing initiatives;
WHEREAS, the Panhellenic Council of the University of Tennessee at Martin advocates
the legal and responsible use of alcohol; and
WHEREAS, the Panhellenic Council of the University of Tennessee at Martin is
supportive of fraternities that are establishing alcohol-free facilities in order
to regain focus on founding principles;
BE IT RESOLVED THAT, starting in the Fall semester 2000 the collegiate chapters
which make up the Panhellenic Council at the University of Tennessee at Martin will co-
sponsor functions with men's fraternities only if those functions or facilities, both on and
off campus, are alcohol free. All chapters must abide by campus alcohol policies. Co-
sponsorship is defined as using the sororities names and letters to promote the event, or if
an individual is there representing their individual sorority. This includes but is not
limited too, mixers, service projects, fraternity weeks, and school sponsored events. No
Panhellenic member shall be allowed to sign a party list at fraternity parties for
participation points or any other reason. No sorority member shall be allowed to attend a
closed party or function after a mixer with the fraternity they had the mixer with, whether
alcohol is present or not at the party or function. The Panhellenic Council reserves the
right to hand down punishment to any individually involved sorority if they do not leave
the facility or function immediately if alcohol is present. Two members of two different
sororities must report the infraction to their President and Panhellenic Delegate, and must
submit the written infraction report within 24 hours to the Panhellenic President or
Panhellenic Advisor. The punishments are as follows:
1st Infraction: Fine of $150.00 paid by the sorority involved
2nd Infraction: Hearing before the Panhellenic Council and the individual sorority's
social privileges revoked for the following semester
3rd Infraction: Inidividual sorority is reported to their nationals for further repercussions |
