Chapter 127 Honors
To foster outstanding scholarship, the UT Martin Phi Kappa Phi chapter issues certificates of recognition to outstanding freshmen and sophomores, presents the outstanding graduate a Phi Kappa Phi scholarship award, and nominates one student for a national Phi Kappa Phi graduate fellowship. Approximately 50 students receive these fellowships each year nationwide. Other scholarships are also given.
To honor the memory of Dr. Muriel D. Tomlinson, a loyal member of Phi Kappa Phi who died in 1976, a distinguished faculty member in the Humanities presents the Muriel D. Tomlinson Memorial Lecture each year. Another faculty member is chosen each year as the Phi Kappa Phi lecturer, giving one lecture on this campus. At the spring banquet, a faculty member is often awarded a certificate of recognition as Most Meritorious Member in appreciation of outstanding service the Society and to Chapter 127.
Jennifer Ogg, 2005 National Phi Kappa Phi Graduate Fellowship Winner
Jennifer is one of 50 nationwide winners. The Graduate Fellowship Award is based on undergraduate academic performance; leadership and service on the campus and the community; evidence of graduate potential; personal statment of educational perspective, purpose, and objectives; and the evaluation reports from three individuals who are in a position to attest to the student's performance, citizenship, and character.
