Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society,
is an international honor society of scientists and engineers. Members
are elected to membership after being nominated for membership by a
current member. Election is based upon research potential or
achievements. There are nearly 65,000 members in approximately 500
chapters in colleges, universities, industry and government. These
chapters provide a supportive environment for interdisciplinary
research.
The University of Tennessee at Martin chapter was established on
July 1, 1970. The chapter maintains an active membership of
approximately 30 faculty at the university and in nearby school
systems. Four to five programs or events are scheduled each academic
year, including a "back-to-school" social and travelogue, a
presentation of research by either a guest lecturer or one of our own
faculty members, a mini-conference held in conjunction with the Murray
State University Chapter, and the annual banquet which usually features
one of the Sigma Xi Distinguished Lecturers. The presentation by the
Distinguished Lecturer is sponsored jointly by our chapter and the UT
Martin Academic Speakers Program. For a list of currently-scheduled
