Good literacy skills are the main building blocks of education. To assist children in building this foundation, WLJT conducts an annual contest to encourage children to write and illustrate their own stories.
In the Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators contest, there are four catagories, one each for grades Kindergarten through third. Students submit their own original stories and are judged against other children in their same grade.
At the close of the contest, an independant pannel of judges picks one winner and one runner-up for each of the four catagories. These youngsters and their families tour the WLJT facilities, are honored with local prizes, and then read their stories for broadcast on WLJT. For more information, check out these links:
