On his birthday in July, 1998, Stephen Wood became the
worlds leading
contributor of CPU time to the GIMPS project. He has a Ph.D.
in physics from MIT and is a nuclear physicist at Jefferson Laboratory . His other
interests include, his wife and children, genealogy , violin and
klezmer music, and Linux. Since he hasn't so far discovered
any Mersenne primes, he went and discovered a smaller large
prime so as to appear on this bio page.
