Overview
Your open book examination will be timed. If you spend too much time on a few questions, you will have less time for other questions and may not be able to complete the entire test. Specific information regarding time limits will be provided to you prior to each exam.
No credit will be given for questions answered after time expires. Use the practice exam in Blackboard to become familiar with the online testing environment and, in particular, the countdown clock provided in the testing environment.
Suggestions
The following are suggestions for helping you manage your time wisely during your online, open book exam.
- Read the instructions for the test carefully.
- Read each question carefully.
- Allot a realistic amount of time for each question.
- Do not change your answers repeatedly. Frequently, your first instinct as to the correct answer will be the correct one unless you have misread the question.
- Once you have reviewed a question and your answer, do not keep thinking about that answer. Move on.
- If the test format permits, answer the questions you are confident in answering first. If you do not know the answer to a question right away, move on and come back to it after you have answered everything you know. If the test format does not allow you to go back, then follow the tip in the previous suggestion.
- If there is no penalty for wrong answers, do not be afraid
to guess.
- Look for clues from other questions that might help you answer questions you cannot answer right away.
- Have confidence that you know the answer. Do not second guess yourself. Do not spend a lot of time verifying something that you already know.
- Be aware of time limitations throughout the test. Blackboard provides a time countdown that will assist you in this process.
- If time starts to run short, do not panic. Stop and think about how you can best reallocate the remaining time.
- Use the "save" function in Blackboard after you are confident you have answered a question correctly. This practice will save your work in the event you become accidentally disconnected from the exam before you "submit" your test for grading. Using this feature will save a great deal of time
if this happens.
