The Work Space
An appropriate testing environment can contribute to your success. The space you select for taking the exam should be quiet and free of interruptions.
It is important to have enough space in which to work so you can organize and easily use the references (text, notes, etc.) you need. Bring only what you really need into this space. Too many items in your work space can easily become more distraction than help to you.
Review the instructor's directions for the test carefully in advance of beginning the test. Be sure you understand when you will have access to the exam. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the test, discuss this with the instructor before you begin the test, preferably the day before the test is available.
Print out these instructions or make your own notes. Keep an easily accessible copy in your work area so you can refer to these instructions if you need them as you begin your test. The Technology
When using the Blackboard testing environment, it is important to use a high-speed Internet connection. Dial-up connections frequently cause problems. Open a window in your Internet browser (Explorer, Netscape, Safari, Foxfire, etc.) so you can have quick access to email if you have a problem while testing. If you are using the online version of the text, open a separate window for it. Keep a separate Internet browser (Explorer, Netscape, Safari, Foxfire, etc.) window open for the test itself.
Do not attempt to copy or print any part of the test. Do not leave the test window to go to another Internet site. These actions will cause your test to shut down and you will not be able to contine. Blackboard will only allow one attempt per student per test. Only the instructor can reset the test environment and allow you to re-enter the exam once it is disconnected. Use the "save" feature to ensure that your work is not lost in case you are accidentally disconnected from the exam.
