In the Defense of Posey, Sidney defends poetry "against Puritian attacks". I feel to be able to determine whether or not he defended it well one must know to what criticisms poetry came under from Puritians. Did they criticize poetry as a whole as a source of pleasure or criticize certain types of poetry?
