I believe that this play's main issue is the issue of religion vs. politics. Creon wanted to do what was right by law of the land and Antigone wanted what was right by the law of the gods. She felt whether her brother was fighting against the land where he was born or not that he must be buried as her other brother had been. She believed that God would be the judge of her brother and that he would place him where he must go after the judgement. Creon, on the other hand, felt that because Polonieces had betrayed his homeland that he must be treated as the law stated, and not to be buried but left where he lay and not to be touched by anyone and let the force of nature take its toll on his body.
