I may have an optimistic outlook on politics in the South, but I think that they are improving. Just consider the national recognition that Senator Thompson or Vice President Gore have brought to Tennessee alone. I think that the nation is beginning to see leaders from Southern states as more than just the "good ole boys." I also see the trend in politics as moving away from such segregated representation. I see more acceptance of different races, genders, culutres, and views as each generation grows up and takes an active role in politics. I think that the South should stop dwelling on the negative events from the past and focus on the positive aspects of the new leadership that is emerging.
