Stacey... right on! As I have been trying to argue, for me the Confederate flag is a symbol of pride and a statement of freedom. It reminds me of a time of Southern Belles and Southern plantations, and of those beautiful dresses the southern ladies wore in the pre-civil war era. The confederate flag to me isn't a symbol of the civil war, but a symbol of a beautiful culture (even though cruel to slaves... which I DON'T agree with) that was dying, and it's last death throw was the civil war. Now for others, it may mean to them a statement of racism, and they go burning crosses and confederate flags in front of ppl's houses to state their point of view. Like you said, It all depends on the individual who is flying it. As for me, I am harmless... I am not the type to be racist, but I am proud of the fact that I am a southern girl, however I am not proud of the racism that occurred in the past. But, like I have stated before, the civil war wasn't fought over slavery. OK??? Now, if someone wants to use the confederate flag a racist symbol, that is their own narrow-minded problem. And people tend to notice those who commit violent acts while flying a flag more than those who sit back remain quiet. And to answer your question, Jeremy. The reason why the Confederate flag isn't flown everywhere is because the Confederacy doesn't exist politically anymore. But in my heart, I hold the Condfederate flag dear and continue to show the good 'ole southern courtesy that was common in the pre-civil war era. :)
