The confederate flag is a symbol of the pride and romance of the golden age of the South. To see it as a racist symbol is to sterotype all who fly it. Not every southerner is ignorant and racist and neither is the flag that symbolizes our heritage. It is impossible to seperate slavery from the history of the south, but it is possible to seperate the hatred and prejudice from the flag. It must be revered for its place in history-the glory of the "Old South." And as for the comment about why the American flag is flown at the capital and not the Southern flag-last time I checked the American flag was our national flag and not the rebel flag. That could have some influence on what is flown at the capital. Not to step on any toes, but that is not a realistic argument. I am proud of my southern heritage and the display of the rebel flag is one way to show it.
