I think, for some, being from the South in and of itself is a cause for great pride. Many Southerners wear their heritage like a badge of honor. They hang the fact on their walls like a plaque granted for meritorious service. This pride can be such a postive influence in a person's life. I truly believe it can prod them into overcoming obstacles that would overwhelm people from other parts of our country. Do I think that will change in the future? I hope not. That pride and honor is part of what separates "us" from the rest of the world. It makes us special. It makes us strong. And it is one of the many elusive things that makes us Southern.
