Many others in their comments on WriteSouth have agreed, as do I, that Southern hospitality will not change. This is one of the most prominent aspects of the South. Like the casual language, the friendliness of the people is something most people associate with the South. My sister moved from Louisville to Memphis recently and was surprised to find that people seemed friendlier in Memphis. A black lady assisted her when she was lost, and even drove out of her way to show my sister how to get somewhere. Of course, this made sense to me. After all, Memphis is a lot deeper South than Louisville. I wanted to ask Prof. Reed Monday night if he had any maps that proved Southern people are, in fact, friendlier.
