When I think of the future of the South and what will be absent, I immediately think of land. This may seem a simple answer but, nonetheless, it's true. Think of how many acres of farmland you've witnessed transform into commercial buildings and parking lots. Probably quite a few. The South used to draw mental pictures of beautiful grasslands and pastures. However, one finds this to be a rapidly declining notion. It won't be long until we lose this Southern idea.
