The Southern Cultures Festival Writing Event
Topic: "The 21st Century South: Tradition and Change"
University of Tennessee at Martin
We welcome responses from on campus and off
before, during, and after Southern Cultures Week (September 25-29, 2000).
The 2000 Festival looks at traditional features of the South--the arts, agriculture, sports, politics, and cultural diversity--and asks how they will change in the century ahead.
- So from the above list, pick a topic: is there something that you think will definitely change in the South during the next century? Why?
- Is there anything about the South that you think will definitely stay the same?
- The next question is a little more subtle: what change, if it happened, would make the South no longer the South (note the capital "S")?
- Do you think such a change is likely to happen? In 2100, will we be talking about the South in the same way that we are now?
Please respond to any of the above questions, or ignore them
entirely and respond to the responses which you will find below.
Also, please remember that this is a family show.
