It has been interesting reading all the comments here. It suprises me how defensive people get when their choice of music is criticized. I guess we are all still guilty of stereotyping things that we don't like or don't understand. I did grow up listening to Elvis, but I don't consider him a Southern Music artist. He was just a southern boy who "borrowed" music from the Black culture to sell to white people. I think all music is about life - humor, loving, dying, nature, etc. You don't have to experience something to do a good job writing or singing about it, an example being Sawyer Brown's "Wishing There Was Another Side". I do agree with Katie in that I don't enjoy songs with explicit sexual lyrics. Granted, some of those artists may do other kinds of songs, but can you buy a CD by that artist that wouldn't contain songs of that nature? I think any music that is worthwhile to listen to should make you think about yourself, or more importantly, outside yourself.
