Lightening bugs, hot summer days, messy mud pies, old country houses, ancient barns, dogs barking, sitting on the swing watching the sun set, and going to bed leaving the windows open and hearing the frogs and crickets chirp, all remind me of the South and bring back many memories and experiences from the past. When I was younger I can remember going to my grandparents house. They lived in a small town called Crocket County in Tennessee. Their small house was located up on a small hill out in the country. At this time my family lived in Georgia, so we did not get to visit them that much, but when we did I always had so much fun. We would visit during Christmas and summer and would stay for about a week. The summer times were my favorite. I can remember everything so vividly. I used to go outside during the hot summer heat and make mud pies all day long. Then when it began to get dark I would start seeing little flashes of yellow light everywhere. I was so fascinated by these lightening bugs. I would catch these creatures and put them in a jar and poke little holes at the top, but it never failed by morning they would be dead. I can remember sitting in the backyard in the swing and listening to all the crickets and birds chirping. You could barely hear the other person talking because of all the noise of the frogs and crickets. When I would go to sleep that night I would always leave the windows open. I liked hearing all the dogs bark and listening to them howl at the moon. I love the South and all of the sounds. It brings back so many memories and reminds me of those long summer days and nights I used to spend at my grandparents house. These are the times I remember the most about the South.
