I grew up here in Martin and was weaned on Southern Gospel music. When sung with true feeling that can be some of the most beautiful music in the world. The soaring notes and words of love are enough to make anyone cry no matter what their religion. That music, born from the desire for religious freedom that founded this country, is one of the most Southern to me.
As for Elvis. . .well, I like some of his earlier music and I like some of the early movies. I don't quite understand the fanatic adoration or the millions of Elvis impersonators, but I guess it's just one of those things.
