I noticed a lot of people claiming that people "up north" don't have as close of ties to family as do their Southern counterparts, and one person in particular insinuated that Northerners are "immoral." As someone Northern-born, I know for a fact this is not true. The Southern family has its own charming customs, but Midwestern families make just as much effort to get together on Sundays or gather the extended family for holidays. Midwestern families are just as kind, just as hardworking, just as moral. While I think Southern families have a very special quality to them, a kindness and earnestness bred from beautiful weather and rolling hills, I don't think they should be praised at the cost of diminishing or devaluing families elsewhere. I hope that less people will spout baseless stereotypes and more will focus on the specifics regarding their own families.
