I believe the family unit everywhere is the integral part of every person's life, and I think the fast-paced nature of our society now has impacted that, both positively and negatively. As has been previously stated, communication between family members is now not only possible, but rather practical as well. However, I fear electronic creature comforts have stolen the true treasure of the family environment. Whatever happened to the family meal? Whatever happened to sitting on the front porch or in the living room singing or playing games or talking? One can't help but be drawn to the idyllic Mayberry, where Andy, Aunt Bea, Opie, Barney, Thelma Lou, and Helen Crump are all sitting together singing old gospel songs or folk tunes or whatever the Darling Brothers decide to play...
