I think Steven is right--electronic media have changed family customs, not always for the better. However, in one way (already mentioned on this board)the internet is improving family ties. Many of us who grew up in the same town with all our cousins now find our families scattered across the country. Some of my cousins have set up a family website, complete with pictures of relatives. We even get an automated reminder about each person's birthday via email. It won't ever replace family dinners, but it does help keep the connections alive.
